The Overland Overview.
Back in 2019 The Overland was launched as an outdoors brand with a tilt towards riding bicycles off-road, exploring and camping. The aim was to design clothing that was so versatile it could be used for leisure, work and sports - significantly reducing the amount of clothing any one person would need.
Sustainability was foremost, the brand was well received and gathered many loyal customers but we felt it didn't go far enough, especially in light of this:
“Increasing the average number of times clothes are worn is the most direct lever to capture value and design out waste and pollution in the textiles system.”
Ellen MacArthur Foundation - A New Textiles Economy
There is enough clothing already out there to clothe the next SIX generations. We thought there surely must be a way to create a brand that uses this as a resource rather than a burden, not just increasing the amount of times an item of clothing is worn but the amount of times the fabrics are used. It was as we pondered this dilemma we set-up Circular Inc.
Introducing Circular Inc.
We wanted to become a greater part of the circular economy and have a greater impact. Running a small brand such as Overland would only get us so far. To make a bigger impact and increase our knowledge Circular Inc. was born to design, manufacture, repair and upcycle clothing for UK arms of international clothing brands, such as Patagonia, Osprey and Lululemon. In doing this we understood clearly and quickly what is needed to move brands to the circular economy - this being the economy where waste is designed out and we instead use what we have already.
We use what we learned to develop a new type of product for The Overland - hybrid clothing that incorporates end-of-life textiles within them and clothing that is pre-designed to be made into other products at the end of it's life. The Overland consists of carefully considered products that are all designed to use other brands waste fabrics. We're designing and making for the future.
All products are designed and made in our Brighton workshop on the edge of the South Downs National Park.
